UNIT 5 - Evaluation of production

Evaluation of production In this production we were set a target by our teacher to complete and produce a production for the school which would most likely go onto the school website. This would be viewed by the whole school, upcoming students of the school and parent/carers who were interested in the school. During the whole process of this in both pre-production and midst filming there were many set backs we faced. such as availability of the client, time schedules of the students, finding free time of other students and other limitations that prevented us from filming earlier/sooner. One major problem was the designated groups we decided to be in so that we can get more filming done, thus being more productive. However there were some students who were filming more than others and editing more, so the work schedule was unfair on the people that were doing more work than others. We managed to get everyone to participate and do their fair share of filming and editing. Me and Afsan...

UNIT 5 - Weekly Production Log 5

This week we had come close to finishing off the editing and finally coming to an end of the production. We needed a review from our client Mr Philips to see if he has any input/opinions on what we had done so far. He had watched the footage and had very little negative things to say as we had listened to is instructions from the get go. He did however recommend some music for us to add in as we dont want the whole production to be silent. The interviews needed some other footage to go over them as it would get boring seeing the same person for a long duration of time. This is something we need to focus on as we have a number of different people who had been interviewed.

UNIT 5 - Weekly Production Log 4

This week we had filmed quite a lot of shots all around the school and had interviewed numerous students/teachers. We had out all the shots on the editing timeline and had double checked what was missing in order to fill in the gaps. Once that was done we split into groups again and went and filmed the missing shots. One problem we faced was the amount of people coming into class, this meant that not everyone had a fair turn in doing some filming, which in result ended up in some filming/doing more work than others. However once the students came back they were told. We have almost come to the end of editing as we now have a secure structure to how we have to film and edit, one last significant part we to add in is the voice overs for the footage that we have filmed.

UNIT 5 - Weekly Production Log 3

This week we split into groups to go and film the school in different areas and parts of the building, this makes us more productive and time wise as going as a whole group to one place at a time would not be very time wise and smart. So we split the groups into groups covering Lower school: Floor 1, Floor 2 and Floor 3. The groups consisted of up to about 2-3 people. Some people such as myself used their mobile devices to capture footage as the camera quality on the Iphones are exceptionally good. After splitting into groups we each had a to do list of what needs to be filmed and it must be up to a good standard. In the brief we had with Mr Phillips he told us specifically that he wanted to avoid class room shots for a long duration of time as he has seen other schools do it and finds to very boring. So filming classrooms was kept at a minimum. We filmed interviews with students of all years and teachers giving their opinions and experiences in the school. We then got some panning and...

UNIT 5 - Weekly Production Log 2

This week we had got into the full swing of all the pre-production paperwork and tasks. each production piece was assigned to individuals as we can cover more ground with the schedule we were following.  We decided that we will all take part in completing the shoooting script as it is very long and will take some time todo, it is only fair if the whole class take part in completing this and get it done quickly and effectivly. The pre production was vital to finish off otherwise we couldn't get into filming. I got tookit upon myself tocomplete the release forms for the group to fill out whilst others had been doing other pre production work.

UNIT 5 - Weekly Production log 1

For this unit we were assigned to do a short production on the School, kind of like a 'Day in the life' video. This video would be put on the school website for parents and upcoming secondary school students to see. We had to do an advertisement brief with Mr Phillips as he is our client as he is the head teacher of the school. In this brief interview with him he had gone through what the schools message should be in this video and how he wants the staff and students and the genera vibe of the school to come off. We wrote this down so when it comes to filming we can use it as a structure or  "to-do list". This makes it easier to follow. After the brief we then knew what was expected and to what standard it had to be completed by, we then started the pre-production work such as the shooting script, location recce, risk assessments.
